The Washington Metropolitan High School
Washington, D.C.
Washington Metropolitan conveys to students that our aim is to help them discover their talents and set goals for their future. We are continuously improving our program by increasing instructional technology, improving intervention opportunities, extending service-learning throughout the curriculum, providing leadership and character-building opportunities, and monitoring student’s academic progress. We are committed to serving some of the District of Columbia’s most disengaged students and providing services, supports and opportunities for all students to become successful. It is our hope to meet the changing needs of each of our students.
During my tenor as the first (EVER!!) Librarian at Washington Met, I worked diligently to create a school library culture. I formed unique and lasting bonds with several students and created a lunchtime Film Club, where we watch and discuss thought provoking films.
I also established the "Read, Review, Reward" incentive program aimed at encouraging the reluctant reader. I also had several successful programs including visits from authors Morowa Yejide and Necole Ryse, collaborations with Howard University Television's "Digital Media Arts Club" and a special presentation on how African American girls are misrepresented in the media from Miss Black Teen D.C., Aisha Louis.
